After graduating from the UCD School of Medicine in 1987, Declan went on to complete a MSc. in Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Aberdeen. After such, Declan worked as a Registrar in Medicine at Aberdeen Teaching Hospitals before returning to the University of Aberdeen to undertake his M.D. thesis. He next moved to London to work as a Senior Lecturer in Medicine for the Elderly at the King's College Hospital.

In 1997, Declan returned to his native Limerick to take up a role as a Consultant Geriatrician at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital. A Professor of Medical Science, Declan also held the position of Clinical Director for Medicine at University Hospital Limerick. Furthermore, Declan is the Chairman of the Expert Advisory Group on Aging to the HSE.

Declan is also the founder of Clinisynergy, a Management Consultancy Group that specialises in the design, development, training and support of Clinical Information Systems. In addition, Declan is a regular keynote speaker at National and International Medical Technology events.

Injecting passion, positivity and perseverance into the Consortium, Declan is undoubtedly Doctot's spiritual leader.

A hugely experienced Health Care Provider, Doctot greatly benefit from Declan's clinical expertise and insight. Understanding the specific needs of his fellow clinicians, Declan ensures they are always provided with the most objective and reliable content where and when they need it. To ensure such is always achieved, Declan obsessively researches and reviews primary literature, evidence-based information, clinical guidelines, and Drug SPCs and PILs on the Consortium's behalf,

Declan however brings much more than just medical guidance and quality assurance to the Doctot table. Tasked with a key strategic role, Declan helps to determine the group's future direction with trademark vision, conscientiousness, and adventure.

Of importance not to be underestimated, Declan also brings tremendous fun, personality and amiability to proceedings, which helps to make Doctot's culture not only hugely distinctive but very harmonious.

An admirer of the world's great cities, Declan lists Paris, Rome and Dublin among his favourites. Limerick however is where his heart will always lie.

A family man, a Garryowen rugby club-man; Declan loves his boys enough to watch them pull on Lansdowne jerseys. Shannon ones would however test his limits!

A retired Formula One Driver in a parallel universe, Declan is a keen cyclist and boater in this one! Declan also somehow finds the time to maintain a strong interest in local and national politics, and in non-fiction penned by the likes of Malcolm Gladwell.

Unable to resist an intellectual challenge, Declan is also currently working upon debunking what he considers to be the greatest myth of all time. All will be revealed in due course!
